About the Faculty
The Mathematics Faculty is a caring and committed team of staff who teach the full ability range from Year 7 to Advanced levels. We have high expectations of all students and provide both fast track opportunities for the mathematically gifted and a supportive environment for those who find mathematics difficult. We also have strong links with our partner primary school co-ordinators to whom we offer specialist support and work with collaboratively to improve teaching and learning at Key Stage 2 and smooth transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
The Mathematics Faculty is located on the ground floor of the Newman Building. The Faculty consists of six classrooms each with interactive whiteboard facilities, and one maths computer room with networked computers and interactive whiteboard. We also have fifteen wireless laptops.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7- 9)
At KS3 all students follow a structured mathematics curriculum which covers all of the requirements of the National Curriculum. Students are set by ability within the first term of Year 7 and regular assessments are made throughout Years 7 and 8 to monitor progress.
Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11)
In Years 9, 10 and 11 all students follow the OCR Graduated Assessment Mathematics GCSE course. For students starting Year 9 in September 2009, this course will comprise four modular exams (sat periodically through Year 9, 10 and 11) of increasing difficulty followed by a terminal exam in the summer of Year 11. Some students have the additional opportunity of studying GCSE Statistics in Year 10 or 11.
Key Stage 5 (Post -16)
Sixth form students are able to study AS and A2 Mathematics within school. The current Year 12 and 13 have the opportunity to study Further Mathematics as part of the Further Maths network but from September 2009, this will be offered within school.
