About the Faculty
The Faculty of ICT and Business Education is situated on the second floor of the Newman Block. There are 7 specialist areas equipped with Microsoft Windows networked workstations, which enable pupils to access a full range of resources.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7-8)
At KS3 all students study ICT as a discrete subject for one hour per week which covers all of the requirements of the National Curriculum. The students use a wide range of applications where the skills that they learn will also support learning across the curriculum. Students are baseline assessed within the first term of Year 7 and regular assessments are made throughout Years 7 and 8 to monitor progress.
Key Stage 4 (Years 9 - 11)
In KS4 ICT students will follow one of two pathways which are best suited to their ability:
WJEC GCSE ICT consists of a mixture of controlled assessments and external examinations.
OCR NATIONAL ICT Level 2 consists of 100% coursework made up of 7 units of work.
Both courses will continue to build on ICT skills using advanced features of various software packages including Microsoft Office 2010 and Macromedia suite.
Ifs Level 1 Award in Personal Finance (APF1)
(1/2 GCSE)GCSE BUSINESSFIRST CERTIFICATE IN TRAVEL AND TOURISM (2 GCSE equivalent)
Students will receive a minimum of 2 hours of lessons per subject, per week, depending on the course.
Sixth Form (Post-16)
In the sixth form courses are offered in:
OCR Applied in ICT
OCR National ICT Level 3 (A level equivalent) this is a two year course that consists of 100% coursework made up of 6 units of work.
FIRST DIPLOMA IN BUSINESS (4 GCSE equivalent)
BTEC NATIONAL AWARD in Travel and Tourism (A level equivalent)
A level BUSINESS (Applied)
Students will receive a minimum of 5 hours of lessons per subject, per week, depending on the course.
Extra Curricular Activities
Students have the opportunity to participate in a number of extra curricular activities to support the ICT curriculum. This includes Web-graphics and CC4G Club for Key Stage 3 and Radio Station and various workshops for Key Stage 4.
