Humanities

About the Faculty

The Humanities Faculty which encompasses Citizenship, Geography, History and  Sociology is situated in the main school block where there are 5 specialist classrooms suited vertically around the D staircase. All the classrooms have projectors, and three rooms have interactive whiteboards. Visualisers are also available for use in History and Geography. The Humanities suite also has access to a computer room located on the C staircase.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7 and 8)

At Key Stage 3 all pupils study both History and Geography.

Key Stage 4 (Years 9,10 and 11)

At Key Stage 4 we offer both GCSE History and Geography.

Key Stage 5 (Post-16)

For post 16 students we offer A-Level courses in History, Sociology and Geography.

Exam courses offered in Humanities have been popular options for many years. We have a proud record of exam success. The human and physical resources available have enabled us to lead the field in the drive to improve learning and teaching.  Curriculum enhancement has been provided in the form of visits to World War 1 Battle Sites, Black Country  and Cold War Museums in History.  In Geography pupils are involved in a number of field trips including local river surveys, local settlement surveys and residential courses in Oxford.  Students have also been given the opportunity to attend one day conferences in History, Geography and Sociology. At Key Stage 3 we have for many years welcomed an expert on the English Civil War to show and demonstrate Civil War clothing and weapons to our pupils.
