DofE Gold Expedition – Brecon Beacons (28th June – 2nd July 2015)

Last Sunday saw Miss Browne, Mr & Mrs Taylor and Mr Flood accompanying 14 6th form students to the Brecon Beacons for them to undertake their Gold qualification expedition.

On arrival in Brecon, the two groups brushed up on their navigational skills with an acclimatisation trek before returning for their last supper together before going their separate ways on the Monday.

Bright and early on Monday morning the two groups headed out from Talybont Reservoir to start their 4 day expedition. Over the course of the expedition the groups experienced temperatures in excess of 30 degrees but the students dug deep and overcame the extreme conditions they faced. Thursday saw the groups utilise a foul weather route to navigate around an approaching thunder storm.

The students were a credit to themselves and our school and I look forward to hearing the stories about their visit to the palace to collect their Gold Award in the next few months.

A huge thank to all the staff who helped out on not only this expedition but in the two preceding training expeditions to get them to a point where they were capable of navigating such Wild Country routes.
