School Masses
Christmas Mass and Autumn House Champions

We started the day practising carols again with Mrs Johnson and Mrs Bentley.  Mrs O’Driscoll and Mr Smith were gathering liturgy leaders to help set up for Mass.
It was a wonderful atmosphere as we had many candles, the Christmas tree and the crib.  Alpha brought baby Jesus down in the procession and laid him in the crib as the choir and school sang ‘Ready the Way’.  The choir had sung a lot during the last week of term but they rose to the occasion.  The year 7s particularly sang well during ‘A Christmas Blessing’ and Elizabeth in Year 9 was angelic as she sang the psalm.

The beautiful and festive Mass was tinged with sadness as we said goodbye to Fr Emmanuel who was going back to Cameroon.  He said he had grown in confidence during his time at our school and had enjoyed being with the students.  He was presented by the liturgy leaders with gifts representing the school and Mrs Bayliss had skilfully designed the T-Shirt and gift box.

After singing ‘O Come all ye Faithful’ Mr Martin stood up to speak to us and to announce the House winners of the term.  We waited nervously as he proclaimed Newman as the winners of the cup.  Mrs Bayliss, Head of House was delighted to get up and receive the award on behalf of her house.
