Easter Mass - April 2017

On Friday 7th April we gathered as a school community to celebrate our faith. After the previous evening of Governors’ Awards, the hall was transformed by Mr Smith and his willing helpers into a prayerful environment for our end of term Easter Mass.

As we weren’t in school for Holy Week this year, we focused on Good Friday to start the procession and Year 13s carried the cross silently as the pupils watched a year 7 pupil crown Jesus with thorns. Mr Smith called for reverence from everyone before we started and that is certainly how the whole school responded. The procession continued with pupils from different forms, dressing the cross in red, placing a hammer and nails at the foot of the cross and carrying candles. The accompanying words painted a picture of Jesus’ suffering for our sake. It was a powerful way to start the Mass.

Miss Moran prepared a beautiful and thought provoking Communion Reflection where the cross of life was dressed, to signify the resurrection and how that has given new life to all of us. It was profoundly moving. Thanks go to Fr Emmanuel and to everyone who worked so hard to make this a memorable end of term.

A very Happy Easter to everyone.  Let us continue to celebrate this Easter season with ‘alleluias’ until Pentecost!
