St Thomas Aquinas Feast Day - 28 January 2010MassWhat a privilege it was to be part of the celebration of our Feast Day yesterday. We began in tutor groups with each pupil producing a prayer that was then presented in a procession at the beginning of Mass. Mrs Jones called on each member of the school community to be generous in allowing everyone else to pray and to reflect on the meaning of the day. And that is exactly what happened as we celebrated a wonderful Mass together. After communion Mrs Dee McCann from Acorns Hospice was delighted to receive a cheque for £4,636 which was 50% of ... Year 3 Primary Multi Skills FestivalOn Wednesday 20th January, Hayley Hunter, Reece Chapman Carry, Michael Kenny and I attended a multi skills festival. We went to help out as young sports leaders. Throughout the day we assisted Year 3 pupils in learning different and new skills. We had to lead a warm up then demonstrate the new skill that the pupils had to follow at our station. Over the course of the day there were over 500 pupils involved, including pupils from our old primary schools, St Brigids, St Columba's, St John Fisher and St James'. As GCSE PE students, it was a good experience as it... [Read more] |
Christmas Mass 2009Our term finished today in the perfect way with our Christmas Mass when we came together as a whole school community. As with all of our whole school Masses, our Sports Hall, recently the venue for Year 11 Trial Examinations, was transformed in to a place of worship by the respect and prayerfulness shown by our pupils. The Christmas Mass is always a special celebration. The readings and prayers and the musicians and choir enabled us to reflect on this major feast of the Church. The meaning of Christmas was also remembered in the many hampers donated by the different fo... [Read more] |
Evening of Carols and ReadingsAt 7.30 on Thursday 17th of December we gathered as a community in the Sports Hall to celebrate Christmas with our Christmas service. Many pupils and their families joined us for the readings and carols which was a lovely way to remind us of the true Christmas message. The choir was superb and the selection of carols which included some old favourites and some new to us this year really captured the reason for the season! The musicians and soloists performed really well and we can look forward to many more years of lovely music from our young singers. Thank yo... [Read more] |

6th Form Revue 2009The year 12 revue was an exciting experience for everyone involved on Monday afternoon. The revue kicked off with Tom and Gerry presenting; the first act was the HipHop dancers which got the year 7s excited to see what was going to happen next. This was the TV reality show ‘I'm a celebrity get me out of here' which featured an eating game with Mr Stephenson, Mr Stevens and a year 7 pupil from the audience. In the end, Mr Stephenson lost and had to eat ‘Dog Food'. Next up was the drama which was a comedy performance about teachers and pu... [Read more] |
Raffle 2009A huge thank you to everyone! Once again our pupils and parents surpassed themselves in their generosity. Despite a very gloomy financial climate in the country and Christmas approaching, our parents and children showed the real meaning of Christmas in a wonderful effort. The last few days has seen a massive response from forms with cakes sales and lots of inter-form competition which saw the total raised jump to a massive £9,254.00. The team spirit has been outstanding during the last five weeks with pupils doing their best, supported by parents and form tutors who constantly encouraged, nagged and praised - ... [Read more] |
The Enigma ProjectOn the 8th of December members of year 7 and 8 were joined by an expert from Cambridge University called James Grime who is a code breaker. He taught them different types of codes and how to solve them. One of the ways to send codes and crack them was called the Enigma machine which was used in World War II and it's still working today! The pupils not only got to learn about the Enigma project but later on they got to try and crack some codes themselves; unfortunately they weren't allowed to use the Enigma machine as it's a special ... Transition Orchestra Christmas ConcertLast evening we were all treated to a lovely Christmas Concert performed by members of South Area Transition Orchestra. This is the fourth concert that they have given since their formation in the summer term of 2008. The orchestra was formed by the Music Service in response to an initiative in school to bring talented musicians from years 5 to 8 together to make music. Last night's performances demonstrated that idea was a good one and that it has proved to be a success. Well done to Miss Cutler and Mr. Weekes who have supported each week, to members of the Mu... Year 10 Fieldtrip to AlvechurchOn Monday 23rd November 2009 Year 10 Geographers went to Alvechurch as part of our controlled assessment in GSCE Geography. Our group had to look at the environment of Alvechurch; we went around in small groups of four. The day consisted of a wide variety of activities: from a traffic count to environment surveys. We did these so we could assess certain aspects of Alvechurch's environment such as: street lighting, the amount of litter and noise pollution. At different points we drew annotated sketches and took several photos. We had to ask people about what they thought about Alvechurch, this ... [Read more] |
